Never mind, for me GB is great tune. And who know, maybe we´ll see nice way to top 10.
Greetings to Phil, nothing to worry about it, just a thought gladden loyal europeans and australians ;-) with some shows...but that there was.
Cheers, OndraM
true, but atleast it's top
true, but atleast it's top 40. sad. it didn't chart better. it did great in europe
I think that the expectation
I think that the expectation of Going Back have been a bit too high for the market here in America. I don't expect it to crack the top 10. Perhaps some people in the US wanted to have something that brought Phil back to his roots with original material (Face Value) - not all the way back to cover Motown only. I can understand why some of his latest albums in America have not charted well since Both Sides - and that's because Phil hasn't been too concerned about having another hit record for a long time. It's unequivocal that we (being us, the fans) are well aware of his talent, but I think that a lot of people outside have sinced shoved him under the bus because of the hits he put out in the 80s and 90s. Hopefully people will wake up and realize that his music was not all bad - solo or with Genesis.
Can't say I wasn't hopeful
Can't say I wasn't hopeful for a better debut, but I remain optimistic that PC gains ground over the next 7 days.
As for the American market...go figure. Kenny Chesney is number 1 and Lil Wayne is number 2. Maybe this week's chart is Billboard's mid-term polling. :) But hey, wouldn't ya just love to see these two meet up in the alley behind the MTV music awards. :)
The same happened with
The same happened with ...Hits a success around the world and altough it sold 3 millions only in the US debuted only at #18...what really surprise me is that DITL and Testify weren't as success as Going Back around the world but they charted better in the US, especially Testify that sold so poor everywhere...really strange
That's disappointing, I was
That's disappointing, I was sure it'd at least be in the top ten. But it did receive better positions elsewhere in the world.
Maybe the U.S. is just getting to be a particular market in recent years, if you're crap and famous for two seconds (I'm talking to you, Idol and America's Got Issues contestants) you'll be number one and if you have talent you're confined to lesser spots. Of course this is a generalization and doesn't always apply.
Without wanting to sound obnoxious or disrespectful, I don't see what Rod and others have to do with Phil Collins' forum unless you're trying to prove an exception to the above paragraph regarding the U.S. music market. Let's not compare Soulbook to Going Back, they were recorded for different reasons, one was alternate versions of the songs and the latter (Phil's) was recreating the original songs and the emotions they evoked, so they are actually very different. Oh and don't get the Songbooks confused with Soulbook, the Songbooks are even more different and they're not something that should be compared to Going Back at all, the new one's more danceable and the last one by the way, hopefully followed by a collaboration with Jeff Beck. Anyway, I'll shut up now.
