Remastered and expanded (2 CD + DVD with multichannel mixes)
Hello fans from all over the world,
I dunno if this has been discussed already on the forum, but I think that after the new album Phil and Tony (Smith) and Warner should (must) "Go BACK" for real and re-release the back catalogue in the form of the latter Genesis albums. I think there's enough material there to have a CD with the original album (better if SACD) remastered, a second CD with the b sides of the period and the demos or outtakes, and ( why not ?) a DVD with the album in DTS, plus the promos. I know that multichannel is not everyone's cup of tea, but I can guarantee you that it's a true, new muscal experience on albums I've known for so long. Anyway...Phil, it's time you do something because the old cd editions that are out there aren't making your music justice. We want more...
A loyal fan from Italy.

 After the comments I saw
After the comments I saw from people on the old genesis forum and some fan forums.... it would seem that 40% of the people did not know they needed a DVD player and a Home cinema system to get the Surround Sound from there DVD/SACD which was depressing to think such people were too stupid to realise!
YOU wouldnt buy a PS3 game if you owned an XBOX would you?
Hence why the market for such Surround Sound releases is a bit dead at the moment!

An artist I love David Ford
An artist I love David Ford made a comment recently that the way that the business works these days an album can be dead a few weeks after it has been released.. when you think about But Seriously, that album practically lived in the charts for over a year.. but when you look at Going Back even though it went to number 1, it has dropped out of the charts pretty quickly.
Rereleases wont work because there isnt the same audience there, Phil doesnt have the same fanbase he had in the 80's they have all gotten 25 years older, and tastes change, so whilst they may have loved Phil back in 85, now? Nope. Phil appealed to a lot of casual listeners, he never really had the same fanatical fanbase Genesis or PG have, or any number of artists.. and unlike artists like Elvis/The Beatles/Michael Jackson, his music isnt around all the time, so isnt getting exposed to newer auidences.
Trust me this, if the record company thought there was money in rereleasing his back catalog they would. Heck, we cant even get a full collection of his music videos released! So whilst I would buy a rerelease/box set etc, I dont think there is a huge market for it.
The problem is that Phil
The problem is that Phil would have to do promo work to sell them and thats the problem the impression he gives publically is that he doesnt want nor need to do promo work any more! thus making such a release a still birth.....
I suspect by chance that the GENESIS boxsets have made money, but that is in part due to the 2007 tour which really was there to promote the said boxsets.
Nick Davis could work his magic, but such magic is not cheap! its all on a whim of the record company/management and as Phil seems to not have the desire, it is sadly a non happening event. I WOULD LOVE to be proved wrong......

All albums from Face Value to
All albums from Face Value to But Seriously would be successful from a sales perspective, I would think.
This will never happen as
This will never happen as there isnt a market for them. I think thats basically it, maybe a few hundred fans would buy the cds but few others. Phil's music is seen as pop and therefore doesnt have the collectors market that these releases need
These albums are all
These albums are all (multi)platinum sellers. OF COURSE there is a market !!
Yes, there is a huge market.Â
Yes, there is a huge market. Arguably more than there was for the (excellent) Genesis box sets which were released to ever-diminishing returns (being, as they were, for the real fans and not the tourists).
I have long hoped for a full Phil Collins retrospective, starting with the studio albums, including B-sides and demos and then moving on to some of the "simply fabulous" 'live' material that has been circulating amongst traders and collectors for many years. There's more than enough pre-fm and soundboard bootlegs out there for a show to be released from every tour.
Also, a biography on a scale of the work that Armando Gallo did for Genesis is much needed. Gallo wrote what many (Phil included) consider to be the definitive history of the band, a marvellous book called I Know What I Like. He also released From One Fan To All Others, the story of Genesis told through Armando's lens ('Mand' followed the band on every tour up to and including We Can't Dance).
